Happy Anniversary, Shelly!

It’s hard to believe that time can fly by so quickly. Today, Michelle and I celebrate our 6 year anniversary. That’s right, 6 years. In a row. It’s not always been an easy road, either. We’ve had more then our share troubles, but we’ve always managed to pull through.

I’m often asked how Shelly and I manage to stay together so long when most “normal” relationships last a few months at best. The trick is simple; stop expecting things to work. Too many people expect things to be perfect and magical instantly and forever. If the slightest thing goes wrong, they find themselves bitter, angry and prone to call things off. Instead, it takes a lot of work to keep things flowing. You have to make the relationship work, not just want it to. Hope is fantastic and all, but it’s worth two shits in a sock if you’re not going to make it happen. This is really true for everything in life. Want something all you want, but you need to do something to make it happen.

It’s still early yet and I believe Michelle’s still upstairs sleeping. So I’m not totally sure what we’re up to today. If I get my way, we’re going to head out to Great Lakes Crossing, wander around for a few hours then hit up the Sushi bar they’ve got there (god that place is good).

I’ll let you know how it all goes.
